Currently, there are nearly 3,500 projects either
in planning stages or under construction in the Gulf region. With
nearly 25% of the worlds construction cranes, the UAE has effectively
become a 4,000 square meter blank canvas from which architects,
engineers and developers have free reign to inscribe their visions.
Here is a list of the most prominent developments currently in process
around the UAE:
The Dubai Waterfront. When completed, it
will become the largest waterfront development in the world. It
will be 2.5 times the size of Washington D.C. and house over 400,000
people.
The Burj Dubai. At a height approaching
1km (800 meters), the Burj will not only be the tallest building,
but the tallest freestanding structure in the world when completed
in 2009.
The Burj Al Arab Hotel. Currently the world's
tallest hotel is also the world's only 7-Star luxury hotel.
The Dubai Airport. Upon completion, this
airport will be twice the size of Hong Kong Island!
Dubailand Ski Dome. Slated to be twice the
size as the world's largest indoor ski slope - currently
Ski Dubai.
Dubai World. An amusement park and entertainment
complex similar in scope to Disney World, but over twice the size.
The World. Constructed like the current
most popular artificial archipelago, Palm Island, The World will
boast 300 individual islands within it's massive development.
Hydropolis. The world's first underwater
hotel. Entirely built in Germany and then reassembled in Dubai.
The Al Burj. As the centerpiece of the Dubai
Waterfront, the Al Burj will be 1200 meters high making it 30%
taller than the Burj Dubai and three times taller than the Empire
State Building.
